Silver Staircase Rapid
Rating: Class III / IV
GPS: 35.572690, -118.565498
Above 3000 CFS: This rapid should be classified as Class IV at high water, because of the potential of a long, turbulent swim. After Sun Down Falls, start center and find seams and tongues to run between pour-overs. About half way down, there is a pair of holes on river left and river center to thread between before moving quickly to the right of a boulder in the middle of the river.
Below 3000 CFS: A long, fun Class III rapid with a surf hole at the bottom right. The surf goes from mellow and manageable, to strong and violent as flow rises past 1000 CFS.
