Borel Powerhouse is a hydro-electric powerplant that has been taken offline. It was slated for de-commissioning from the Isabella Dam Safety Modification Project which rendered it ineffective.
It has some fascinating history as it’s one of the older powerhouses in California. Of note, it was actually built prior to the construction of Isabella Dam. The power used was sent 127 miles to Los Angeles. Borel was one of the first power stations to become unattended for SoCal Edison, and was online for more than 100 years. It was named after Antoine Borel, who was a business partner of Pacific Light and Power Company which was the company that saw the project to fruition.
